A Weekend of Indulgence in Geneva

Let’s start with a choice of accommodations: there are a number of high quality places in Geneva. I would like to recommend the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. Situated on the bank of the Rhone, it is within walking distance to many of the city sites, including the old town. It is beautifully decorated and the rooms offer all the amenities you expect of a five stars hotel. There is a wonderful restaurant on site – the Indian gastronomic Rasoi by Vineet, which is definitely worth a try.

If you appreciate quality watches, you must visit the Patek-Philippe museum. This beautiful place showcases a large collection of watches dating to the beginning of watchmaking in Geneva in the 16th century all the way to modern watches. You can stroll through the four story building on your own or join the daily guided tour of the museum.

I would like to share with you two special restaurants. The first is located 20 minutes’ drive from the center of the city and is called Domaine Chateauvieux. It is part of a boutique hotel in a beautiful country-side setting. The menu offers a nice variety of creative dishes. Then there are a couple of tasting menus, which are truly special. Each course is artistically crafted. Some of the highlights include the trio of Tuna tartare (see picture above) and the Wild Turbot cooked a la plancha (see picture below). A culinary gem not to be missed.

The other is Il Lago, a Northern Italian cuisine based at the Four Seasons hotel. A very elegant place offering wonderful dishes, like the cheese Tortelli (see picture).  It also has a fine selection of wines.

This is just a sample of what Geneva has to offer. Something to keep in mind next time you are looking for place to spend a weekend of indulgence.
